Super Bloom in California

Have you ever heard the term SUPERBLOOM ?   What is it?   This is the newest frenzy for Californians in the last two weeks.   In all thirty some years of my life, I have never heard this term outside of the 60’s peace era. My social media pages and face-to-face conversations have been filled with eyewitnesses of “super bloom” Super Bloom, Lake Eleanor, CA :  photo by  @mirandajonez National Geographic Magazine defines “ super bloom” as “a colloquial term used to define an explosion of wildflowers that exceeds typical spring blooms. The park, which is typically bare of flowers, has come alive with vibrant greenery, poppies, primroses, and lilies.” photos from National Geographic Other photos of super bloom in California It is praise to the Creator that the California drought has finally ended from the downpour of rain this past winter.   Our reservoirs are filled and the drive on the I-5 is no longer hazy brown.   But rather the inters...

Prayer for Spiritual Strength

May we find rest and peace from the Spirit. May our priority be to find time and space to commune with You just Jesus retreated to the Gardens to pray. May we experience the wealth and blessings from our inheritance  as co-heirs in your kingdom. May we be courageous and brave as agents of your Kingdom.   Thank you for your goodness and kindness. ******* 14  For this reason I bow my knees before the Father,   15  from whom  every family in heaven and on earth is named,   16  that according to  the riches of his glory  he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit  in your inner being,   17  so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being  rooted and  grounded in love,   18  may have strength to  comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and  height and depth,   19  and to know the love of C...

The Leader Who Had No Title

It's called the LWT, its short for Leader Without a Title.  I think many of us can relate to this.  Often we think to ourselves in our cultural context of being Southeast Asian Americans who function under a cultural constraints, context, "ministry", and or occupation as stuck?  Hurt?   Plateaued, mediocre, with lack of focus, limited??  Some might even still be struggling with self worth and value in their capabilities.  We are approaching SEALS 2014, in a 2 weeks and it is a leadership summit right.  Here is some food for thought: How does this take us to depend on God's love?  How do we REMAIN in him with this though of disintegrating our negative thoughts and behaviors, our past..... The more thought put into choosing to disintegrating negative thoughts, behaviors, and past experiences leads us to consider what it means to deny yourself to take up the cross DAILY, what does being created in His likeness really mean, and how can we funct...

Go further this Holy Week

In our Christian worldview, this week is called "Holy Week".  I am not only looking at the symbols, reminders, and the passages that we review during this week, the memorial, but I am looking further past the gift of Jesus's sacrifice on the cross.  This week I am challenged by the humanness of Jesus.  As one of my professors said in class this week,  "From upon the cross when Jesus says, 'Elio! Elio! lema sabachithana?"  which means "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me.'  He is actually shouting READ PSALMS 22 READ PSALMS 22!!!"   Psalms 22:1-2 1 says, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?  Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning? O my God, I cry by day, but you do no answer, and by night, but I find no rest."   I look back and see that holy week is not a series of symbols, how to be a better person, or recognized that "Yeah, I sinned this many times this year, and this sin was a doosey...

Glowing with Joy

May the glow of the fire in your eyes be like the glow of joy in your hearth, May the warmth of your hearth overflow  like the love that overflows from your hearth.   It's almost Valentine's Day...most of us look at Valentines Day and think about the curse of the western stigmas of "love".  Red ruffled heart shaped pillows with white embroidery, conversation heart candy, chocolate, teddy bears, and flowers. BUT....Honestly, when we are receivers of these gifts and happenings...it feels so good.  The feeling of so much happiness and love, the simplicity of how love does.  A kind of love that brings us great joy from connections with that person that was so willing to give.  That joy and love captivates us.   For much of our population Valentine's Day draws out quite a skeptical and quite jealous, prideful, hurt filled heart, filled with pain, pity, sorrow, sadness, anger, and  a feeling of overwhelmed consumerism and materialism. ...

Identifying your Voice in the Name of Jesus

The King's Speech, 2010 One of the greatest movies I have seen in the last few years was The King's Speech.  In the beginning we see how George was unfit to be King because of his lack of confidence, stammering, and stutters.  As he ascends to the throne we see more of King George's frustration and anger.   But through practices, exercises, and an honest frank friendship with Lionel we see King George break through his timidity.  With time, reflecting and redefining himself (past and present) King George is able to identify his voice to lead and affirm the country of Britain during the breaking dawn of war with Germany.   Specifically, There is one scene where there is a major break through in King George's voice.  Lionel is sitting in King Edward's Throne because it is a "chair", but King George is furious because it is King Edward's throne.      "Listen to me, listen to me," interrupted by Lionel, "Why should I waste my ti...

Stay On Course

I once had a vision that I was in a small sailboat and I was cruising in the misty calm fog with a small crew.  All we had was to rely on the navigator who was not in the boat with us to guide us to our destination.  That vision made me realized that the Navigator was the Spirit in my life.  This week I've been praying for many things, people, and organizations that I am familiar with, extending out to the people that they all serve.  In the end all I wanted was for the Spirit to guide us into the will of the Father and to stay true to what he's brought us to and onward.  The next morning I got an email from a good friend of mine.  I thought for this weeks journal entry I would share what she shared with me.  I took it straight to heart knowing that God has plans and its up to us to follow His commands even in the simple things of daily life. -your prayer coordinator Stay the Course written by Vanyda Kheiv  an encouragement to her brot...

Journal Resources to the Right

Just a quick note for those who want to individually expand in their knowledge of prayer, and intercession.  There is a navigation bar (nav bar) to the far right of this online journal.  Links, Books, and Inspirational Verses for you to use as a tool. Here is a  new resource that would help those who have a heart to pray for the 1040 window: global north and global south.  Here we all can be in prayer with others on YouTube through the organization Operation World .  This is now in our "Links" tab on the nav bar.  This resource was found on the Passion for the Nation Website .  (under Media).  This is one of their resources that they are providing for those interested in prayer and intercession for the nations.  Operation World is a prayer guide for the unreached countries, at the end of each prayer video, there are bullet points of prayer requests and facts of each country that is being uplifted.  This is also a good tool for those lo...

Be Prayer, Is Prayer.

This prayer journal entry is inspired by teachers, by ministry leaders, and missionaries. -I've heard a few stories that I was just not okay with recently.  It was enough for me to re-evaluate how IS prayer playing a role in my life to be intentional for the people that I see, hear, spend quality time with, serve with, and respond to.  -One was from a teacher in my small group, "  I don't like to think about the current events happening around the nation about guns occurring at schools because I never thought that I was working in an career where I would be putting my life on the line."  It was her way of saying I can go to work because I don't think too much into the fact that I am putting my life on the line.  She was saying if I think about it too much, I wouldn't be a teacher. Then recently I saw a post on my FB wall about a teacher friend of mine where a student brought a gun onto campus. -I saw am seeing more activism for women in ministry, I am ...

Prayer like Incense

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year SEAC!!! I hope that the holidays has been filled with blessings, joy, quality time with family, friends, and the Lord.  And I am looking forward to 2013. I already can sense that God has big plans for the Bride, the church.  It is more evident these days that the end times are dawning.  Now that 12/21/12 has passed, we all see that the Mayan calendar really just ran out of space.  But its not quite funny that we experience heavy earthquakes in the northern parts of Japan, that icebergs are melting at faster rates that ever, that Newtown, CT experiencing a young man shooting innocent children and teachers who serve our children.  We also see great changes in political leadership that are occurring, more deceptive truths, and seeing the first woman president of Korea (not that I'm against women in leadership, but the history of oppression),  If you are the type of person to keep up with current events you would know t...

The LAST Chapter of Psalms

I went to a private elementary school, where every year we had reciting competitions and spelling bees for ACSI.  (Associated Christian School International).  So to practice we had competitions within school to practice and see who would be selected to go to the ACSI event.  I was so shy when I was a kid. I was the kid that stood and clung by the T.A.s and close friends.   I didn't have social skills, nor did I like standing on stage to recite poetry, Bible verses, or spell words.  But since I was a good student, I was always selected to try.  And, I think my teachers wanted to encourage me to break out of my shell of quietness.  Of course my shyness took over, so I never got chosen to go to ACSI.  (whew).  But I remember really  admiring the materiel that was given to memorize   I was asked to participate in the poetry reciting competition at school.  We could choose a long traditional ode fro...

Seeking a Resolution

It is 7 weeks til 2013, next week is Thanksgiving, and then short after we celebrate Christmas.  How quickly does the holiday season crouch up on us, I almost didn't feel it coming.  These days I find myself so busy.  I haven't started a shopping list for gifts, and I haven't even gotten the grocery list together for Thanksgiving dinner.  I"m so busy, you are so busy...I'm sure there is more than a handful of people that can relate to what I'm feeling. Though, I am listing my superficial thoughts above, just below that superficiality there has been one thought that has been on my mind.  While I'm working on projects, having lunch/dinner with good friends,  going to church, enjoying days of celebration, during studio sessions,  I'm thinking "what does God want for me next year".   I feel like in the midst of our business, somehow we want more, whether we are busy with school, work, projects, people, ministry, traveling, family, or even the ho...

Zimbabwe Proverb

We each have seasons of challenges, struggles, and hardships.  We also have seasons of joy, delight, prosperity, and gratitude.  November just so happens to be the month that many people begin to reflect on the happenings, tone, and events of the past 10 months:. (perseverance, goals achieved, blessings, milestones, blessings, thanksgiving, and Truths).  It's the perfect timing as we are in an 8 week countdown til the year 2013.   A testimony passed from one person to the next comes from the roots of a Zimbabwe Proverb.  It was passed down to me from an acquaintance named Bridget.  We met through an organization we both mentor in.  She shared her testimony which includes every possible calamity, like Job, in modern day: stricken with illness that faces death, possibly being paralyzed for the rest of her life,  siblings running away and never to be seen again, to being flat broke in a foreign land.  But by...
