Identifying your Voice in the Name of Jesus

The King's Speech, 2010
One of the greatest movies I have seen in the last few years was The King's Speech.  In the beginning we see how George was unfit to be King because of his lack of confidence, stammering, and stutters.  As he ascends to the throne we see more of King George's frustration and anger.   But through practices, exercises, and an honest frank friendship with Lionel we see King George break through his timidity.  With time, reflecting and redefining himself (past and present) King George is able to identify his voice to lead and affirm the country of Britain during the breaking dawn of war with Germany.

Specifically, There is one scene where there is a major break through in King George's voice.  Lionel is sitting in King Edward's Throne because it is a "chair", but King George is furious because it is King Edward's throne.
"Listen to me, listen to me," interrupted by Lionel,
"Why should I waste my time listening to...
"CAUSE I I HAVE A VOICE"  he yelled at Lionel for sitting in King Edwards throne.
"Yes, you do." says Lionel solemnly.

Like the plot of The King's Speech I am seeing how my voice and my worship to God is developing as I am exercising my prayer life, my life of daily worship, and as I live out my faith with action.  There are many stumbling blocks that may cause us to stammer the name of Jesus, whispers, into existence rather than shouting out the name of Jesus.

I attended Passion for the Nations in Fullerton, CA earlier this March.   I saw something that awakened my heart as a mentor, leader, and follower of Christ.  It captivated me and it changed me.  I saw, heard, and felt the bold, radiant, and passionate young generation professing the name of Jesus through worship.  For some  time I have been wanting to know if the next steps in my strategic training as a disciple of Christ was really real or if I was getting to old for the next step. Seeing these young students made me know God is moving.  There I realized that God is raising up a very young army and that he is using older mentors to support and sharpen these young warriors.  He is building His kingdom NOW! and through worship he is training us to use the authority that He has given us through the Holy Spirit.  We stood there and sang the song "Break These Chains." There I realized age didn't matter; these worship sessions at church, praise nights, conferences, youth groups, and retreats are like boot camp for mobilized warriors; training to fight against the great spiritual war we battle daily.  And by shouting out the name of Jesus we are professing our loyalties, we are claiming who is commander over our lives.  That day,  I came to be so proud to know the name of Jesus.  In a sense I started to revere the name of Jesus more; acknowledging that with all that young energy proclaiming the name of Jesus a large powerful passionate and loving voice will break the darkness of this world; nothing is going to stop it.

Last Sunday was Palm Sunday. We celebrated by singing out loud Hosanna to our Blessed Lord King Jesus.  This Friday we will be at the foot of the cross humbled and amazed by the greatest gift that our Father has sent to us.  We will be remembering King Jesus. This Holy Week I came to the question, "Though I know the name of Jesus as King, as my Savior, BUT do I know that Jesus is my Redeemer?"  I am a score and seven years and I still struggle with Jesus as my Redeemer.  I have lived through many Easters, I know the end result of Holy Week is celebration of His resurrection and that alone is redemption.  I think in our lives we are looking for how Jesus redeems us in our now. Today I acknowledge that this redemption is a process just as salvation is a process I want and will come to know Jesus as my Redeemer.  Soon enough through my desires to familiar myself with Jesus as Redeemer I will live a life that reflects a voice of a greater redemption.

I challenge you to identify your voice in the name of Jesus and what that means to you.   We are in Holy Week and it is timely as we humble ourselves to approach the foot of the cross to intimately be near him.  And as intimate as we are with Him, we will also rise up to celebrate that He is risen.  We celebrate with joy and delight together in fellowship.  We should also know in the depths of our heart what His name means so that we can share what that name of Jesus means to others.  We should not merely be timid and stammer.  I want for our community to know and identify with the name of Jesus.  How does the name of Jesus resonate in your life, in the past seasons, in the now, and what do you want His name to look like in your future, do you identify with the name of Jesus?

You are Lord of Lords
You are King of Kings
You are Mighty God Lord of Everything,
You are Emmanuel
You are the Great I Am
You are the Prince of Peace who is the Lamb,
You are the Saving Grace
You will reign forever
You are Ancient of Days,
You are Alpha Omega beginning and end,
You are Savior, Messiah, Redeemer and Friend.

His name shall be called:
Wonderful Counselor
Mighty God
Everlasting Father
Prince of Peace
(Isaiah 9:6)

These listed names of Jesus helps us to see His character and how we can expand in our walk with him.  We start to see Jesus as more than teacher, healer, and Son of God.  We see him as friend, father, counselor, a God of Ages, we see his name as a gift, a blessing, as the Groom.  This past Sunday I was able to pray for someone and their struggles. I called upon Jesus to be the Great Counselor to the situation and circumstance.  Because I personally identify with Jesus as Counselor, I was able to share that with someone else using that power and authority that I identify with. We are not able to confess and profess the need if we do not clearly know how it is defined in our life.  I encourage you to continue upholding your shield of faith by exercising the use of the name of Jesus in your life.  Share with us what does Jesus' name look like in your life?  I hope this encourages and inspires your Holy Week and may you be blessed as you celebrate Easter.

Blessings,

Words

SEALS 2012 was.... generated by Wordle.net For all who attended SEALS 2012, and to the ones that were not able to attend.  These are the words that influence us today as we have departed one another.  With these words we become a living testimony by Truth Is, and by Spoken Word. For those who have returned home to an avalanche of reality, be courageous.  Our fear is not about our doubt, its about our futility, the feeling of being useless or ineffective.  It's healthy to be doubtful, sad, mournful, heavy-hearted, in pain, broken, stressed; these are feelings that the Father created, emotions that He also feels. He also created compassion, joy, empathy, redemption, surrender so that we would rely on Him as a source. This words collaged above represent how attendees felt leaving SEALS 2012.  Be empowered by these words.  May our words continually be edified and may we continue to be bold in our ministries "Be strong and courageous.  Do no...

The Leader Who Had No Title

It's called the LWT, its short for Leader Without a Title.  I think many of us can relate to this.  Often we think to ourselves in our cultural context of being Southeast Asian Americans who function under a cultural constraints, context, "ministry", and or occupation as stuck?  Hurt?   Plateaued, mediocre, with lack of focus, limited??  Some might even still be struggling with self worth and value in their capabilities.  We are approaching SEALS 2014, in a 2 weeks and it is a leadership summit right.  Here is some food for thought: How does this take us to depend on God's love?  How do we REMAIN in him with this though of disintegrating our negative thoughts and behaviors, our past..... The more thought put into choosing to disintegrating negative thoughts, behaviors, and past experiences leads us to consider what it means to deny yourself to take up the cross DAILY, what does being created in His likeness really mean, and how can we funct...

Be Prayer, Is Prayer.

This prayer journal entry is inspired by teachers, by ministry leaders, and missionaries. -I've heard a few stories that I was just not okay with recently.  It was enough for me to re-evaluate how IS prayer playing a role in my life to be intentional for the people that I see, hear, spend quality time with, serve with, and respond to.  -One was from a teacher in my small group, "  I don't like to think about the current events happening around the nation about guns occurring at schools because I never thought that I was working in an career where I would be putting my life on the line."  It was her way of saying I can go to work because I don't think too much into the fact that I am putting my life on the line.  She was saying if I think about it too much, I wouldn't be a teacher. Then recently I saw a post on my FB wall about a teacher friend of mine where a student brought a gun onto campus. -I saw am seeing more activism for women in ministry, I am ...
